Vesta Mae Murtha, age 94, formerly of Chippewa, PA, died on Tuesday, September 19, 2023.
She was born in Akron, OH on July 30, 1929, to James Walter & Bessie Buck Harris and spent her childhood in Akron, OH, Oklahoma City, OK, and Beaver Falls, PA. She married John R. Murtha Jr. at the age of 18 and after a few years in Rochester, Pa., they settled in Chippewa to raise their family.
Vesta is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Sara Harris of North Sewickley Twp., PA; one son and daughter-in-law, James A. Sr. and Elizabeth Murtha of Forest, VA.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Bette Murtha Newbury of New Wilmington, PA; Barbara A. and David Wax of Rogers, OH; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Thomas A Murtha, and her former husband, John R. Murtha Jr.
Family and friends will gather on Thursday, September 21, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Campbell's Chippewa Funeral Home Inc., 2618 Darlington Road, Chippewa, PA 15010 (Randy R. Wheeler, supervisor, 724-843-2500). Services will be held on Friday, September 22, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park in Rochester, PA.
