Frances Corrine Smith, age 85, of Darlington, PA went to be with her heavenly Father on Saturday, April 18, 2020. She passed away peacefully at Good Samaritan Hospice in Wexford, PA.
Frances was born on September 9, 1934 in Pittsburgh, PA, to the late Charles and Frances (Kowalski) Frankowski. She graduated from Elizabeth Seton High School in 1952 and attended the Providence Hospital School of Nursing and received her nursing license on August 30, 1956. Soon after she married Robert Kennedy Smith on April 27, 1957.
Frances is survived by her eldest sister and brother-in-law, Natalie and Marlyn Carle of Pittsburgh, along with numerous nieces and nephews and granddaughter Megan Ann Smith. Fran was greatly cherished by family and friends for her giving personality, exquisite culinary skills and especially for her love for God. Fran's career as a registered nurse was dedicated in caring for many children at McGuire Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1996. She was also a family member of the Gospel Hall Assembly in McKeesport. During her retirement she cared for her only granddaughter and remained active in her life. Frances was loved and cared for by many, including her goddaughter Faith Anne Carle, daughter-in-law Ann Gill, and neighbors Lyn and Paul Hopkins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert K. Smith I in 2002 and two sons, Robert K. Smith II in 1968 and Jeffrey C. Smith in 2002.
